Your Baby’s Common Uncomfortable State

Your newly born member of the family is the most fragile individual in your home. This little angel completely depends on your proper care and utmost attention. A time neglected could mean terrible discomfort for your baby. Advanced Science had introduced the use of various napkins and diapers for the comfort of maintaining the dryness of your baby while on your lap. However, this baby’s get-up can cause irritation known as the diaper dermatitis, as we put the blame on it.

In fact, the word “diaper” by the name of the most commercial brand is using as the prefix for the skin rashes, which is now common for us to say the baby’s discomfort as “diaper rash”. In contrary, the dermatitis is not due to the diaper itself but rather to the materials that are trapped within by the absorbent pads in the diaper. Feces or stool and baby’s urine are confined in this air tight diaper while your baby appears to be as dry as ever.

The first thing to be aware of is that, your baby is being fed uniformly with some kind of measured liquid food in a regular basis or interval of time. With this, your baby expels the materials through his or her bottom. Likewise, liquids are also secreted by your baby’s little kidneys through a process called urination. The process known as micturition is the primary method for excreting water-soluble chemicals from the body. These materials that are trapped inside the air tight diaper are the cause of various irritants and skin disorders.

Knowing this fact can make you aware of the proper health care for your baby. Understand how you feed him or her and learn the possibility of the human process of secreting and expelling. With this awareness, you can prevent the most common skin irritation that could result in your baby.

We can also see different variations of nappy rashes like irritant rash, friction rash and allergic rash. Soap and other cleansing implements can cause irritant rashes that are visible to the buttocks of your baby. Another type of rashes is the friction rashes which are commonly caused by the tightness of the diaper used. This can be observed mostly on the thigh of your baby. Allergic rashes appear to be the same as irritant rashes and may appear even in exposed areas.

To prevent these rashes, always check your baby often and remember that diapers are there to prevent leakage of discharged materials by your baby and should be avoided staying there for quite a while. Prevention is much better than curing. Those rashes can be prevented just by being attentive and really concern of your little angel’s health.

Nobody is exempted from Prickly Heat

Summer days are here again. The intense temperature giving off by the sun gives us discomfort and irritations. Sweating due to heat is naturally the reaction of our body. Sometimes we neglect this sweating and not minding the habit of changing dry and clean clothing. Wetness in our clothing can easily catch dirt and harmful bacteria that can cause our skin pores to be clogged or plugged with foreign matters. The clogging of our skin pores result in inflammation that causes the extreme “pins-and-needles” prickling sensation. We call this feeling and condition as prickly heat or sweat rash.

Prickly heat is often caused by the increased in temperature, especially during summer. It is medically termed as Miliaria. A disease that is common during hot and humid conditions. This ailment affects people who are directly and indirectly exposed to the summer heat and not so clean environment. Nobody is exempted. People of all ages are affected by this heat rash, especially children and infants because of underdeveloped sweat glands. The itching sensation is instantly scratched and caused a more severe condition of the inflammation. Heat rash can also cause infection after it was constantly scratched that cause skin opening.

Other skin disorders and diseases associated with miliaria are directly caused by infection. Heat rash is often preceded by another skin disorder or dermatitis called the Miliaria pustulosa. This is a severe condition of the heat rash that being manifested by open-injury of the skin and to a more serious condition when the sweat duct is blocked. The infection can aggravate the condition of the heat rash into another stage such as the PostmiliarialHypohidrosis wherein the sweat ducts and pores are obstructed. The severity of this stage is that it can weaken your ability to execute continued work in a hot environment. A serious condition like the Tropical Anhidrotic Asthenia can cause you long-lasting skin pore occlusion, which retains your body heat (anhidrosis).

Healthy habits and maintaining cleanliness is the best way to prevent prickly heat. Naturally, avoidance of excessive exposure to sun is, likewise, a factor in getting our skin an unhealthy condition. Heat rash can be prevented. Taking regular cool baths with mild soap can help the prevention. Although during summer, frequent bathing is recommended. Sweating cannot be avoided due to the hot and humid conditions. However, it is better to have your sweat-soaked clothing change with clean and dry light clothing. Your baby cannot tell you these health threats, and it’s up to you to know this summer ailment.

However, don’t worry. There are treatments and remedies for diaper rash, and you can apply this even before visiting the doctor.

Let your baby go on without any covering, exposing to fresh air to dry. Make the baby clean and dry for a while and have some talcum powder apply to give him / her comfort of being fresh and dry. Do not give the baby anything on his diaper rashes, unless it the advice of his / her pediatrician. Remember to clean your baby with lukewarm water and avoid scented soap or other cleaning products with alcohol content or questionable ingredients because this could cause allergic reactions. On the contrary, allowing your baby to run without a diaper is quite a messy proposition. The traditional cloth diapers are more appropriate to cover the baby’s bottom in lieu of the air-tight disposable diapers. Cloth diapers that are made of natural cotton allow air to circulate around the baby’s bottom. In the process, the rashes heal more quickly than doing the treatment without air.

He will be able to determine what has caused it, and if you need to get some medicines to cure it.

Understanding Diaper Rashes

Parents are now equipped with a wide variety of diaper choices. They were given the comfort of changing diapers in lieu of the traditional ones which were used for quite a long time. Diapers come in scientifically designed for quick and effective absorption of wetness. They can also hold the wetness and prevent the same in causing the spread of the baby’s wetness on the floor, on your lap, on the bed sheets, and more. There are advanced designs that keep the wetness away from the baby’s skin as the pads absorb, deep down, to the bottom. However, keeping the wet pads for quite a while can surely cause a diaper rash on the baby’s skin.

These rashes make the baby’s skin completely red and swollen, all because of long exposure to wetness. Babies cannot further complain and instead express their discomfort by crying. It is either they are telling that they are wet or telling you that they are hurt and all they can do is cry. The quality of the diaper has something to do with the rashes on your baby’s skin. There are diapers that contain absorbent pads that react with the baby’s discharge that cause allergies. This sometimes is aggravated by too much exposure of the skin to moisture caused by its wetness and the tender skin of the baby cannot bear the prolonged condition. The remedies for this are to consult your pediatrician about the diaper suitable for your baby, avoid the prolonged use of the diaper and let the baby’s skin free for a few hours in between changing the diapers. Furthermore, have the habit of washing the baby’s skin and let it dry after the removal of the used diaper and let your baby stay free and have some fresh air.

Babies will put everything in his mouth and whatever you feed them, they will take it. There are some food contents that create allergies that cause skin irritation and will appear to the very delicate skin part of the baby, especially the wet portion. Fungi and bacteria as well, can easily develop and multiply on wet places and the baby’s skin which is covered by the diaper has a warm and moist atmosphere that can support the life cycle of these unwanted microorganisms. If you find redness and swollen skin on your baby, do not instantly apply baby wipes without doctor’s advice because using them might contain chemicals, which can be harmful to the baby’s skin.

The skin of your baby is very tender, and you have to maintain cleanliness and full-time care to help prevent the formation of diaper rashes.
