Summer days are here again. The intense temperature giving off by the sun gives us discomfort and irritations. Sweating due to heat is naturally the reaction of our body. Sometimes we neglect this sweating and not minding the habit of changing dry and clean clothing. Wetness in our clothing can easily catch dirt and harmful bacteria that can cause our skin pores to be clogged or plugged with foreign matters. The clogging of our skin pores result in inflammation that causes the extreme “pins-and-needles” prickling sensation. We call this feeling and condition as prickly heat or sweat rash.
Prickly heat is often caused by the increased in temperature, especially during summer. It is medically termed as Miliaria. A disease that is common during hot and humid conditions. This ailment affects people who are directly and indirectly exposed to the summer heat and not so clean environment. Nobody is exempted. People of all ages are affected by this heat rash, especially children and infants because of underdeveloped sweat glands. The itching sensation is instantly scratched and caused a more severe condition of the inflammation. Heat rash can also cause infection after it was constantly scratched that cause skin opening.
Other skin disorders and diseases associated with miliaria are directly caused by infection. Heat rash is often preceded by another skin disorder or dermatitis called the Miliaria pustulosa. This is a severe condition of the heat rash that being manifested by open-injury of the skin and to a more serious condition when the sweat duct is blocked. The infection can aggravate the condition of the heat rash into another stage such as the PostmiliarialHypohidrosis wherein the sweat ducts and pores are obstructed. The severity of this stage is that it can weaken your ability to execute continued work in a hot environment. A serious condition like the Tropical Anhidrotic Asthenia can cause you long-lasting skin pore occlusion, which retains your body heat (anhidrosis).
Healthy habits and maintaining cleanliness is the best way to prevent prickly heat. Naturally, avoidance of excessive exposure to sun is, likewise, a factor in getting our skin an unhealthy condition. Heat rash can be prevented. Taking regular cool baths with mild soap can help the prevention. Although during summer, frequent bathing is recommended. Sweating cannot be avoided due to the hot and humid conditions. However, it is better to have your sweat-soaked clothing change with clean and dry light clothing. Your baby cannot tell you these health threats, and it’s up to you to know this summer ailment.
