A lot of the so-called third world countries are not just poor in terms of national economy but also in children’s health conditions. Research proves that there are millions of malnourished children who are consequently afflicted with various diseases in these under-developed nations.
While some of these countries are manifesting some progress in their economic situation, they still lag behind when it comes to national health care. Their governments are still unable to provide primary health care facilities for their citizens especially the children.
Children in the developmental stage suffer multiple impairments such as malnutrition and various illnesses caused by highly polluted surroundings. Due to the lack of adequate prenatal mother and child health care, a lot of still births occur and up to four million new born babies die within a few weeks after birth.
The health condition of a child greatly depends on the health situation of the mother. How healthy a new born baby will be would be affected by the how healthy the mother’s diet and general physical condition was during pregnancy.
Because a lot of the pregnant mothers in these under-developed countries are not well fed and given proper health care, no less than three million babies are stillborn every year. The rate of children dying at very young ages due to lack of adequate health care is even increasing in some of these poor nations in Asia and Africa.
These alarming global statistics on increasing infant mortality rate should prompt the more developed countries to provide immediate aid for the poorer nations in the needy area of mother and child health care.
