Whenever your baby cries, he or she is experiencing discomfort, either from hunger to pain or probably sick. Crying is the only indication that your baby needs your immediate attention. Upon attendance, you might be caught in surprise seeing bumps on your baby, and you cannot just tell whether they are serious or a minor lump. However, minor insect bite mark could be serious and even cause a reaction in having fever or virus in the system. There are few common rashes which you need to be aware of in order to give him or her, the utmost protection against disease or discomfort.
A yellowish, patchy, greasy, scaly and crusty skin rash that occurs on the scalp of recently born babies is called a Cradle cap. This usually does not bother the baby because it is not itchy and this condition begins in the first three months. The rash is often noticeable around the ear, the eyebrows or the eyelids. It may be shown in other locations as well, where it is called seborrhoeic dermatitis rather than cradle cap. Cradle cap is a natural infant growth change and not caused by a bacterial infection, allergy, nor from poor hygiene. The causes might be fungal infection and overactive sebaceous glands.
Another common rash that your baby can experience is the Miliaria also called “prickly heat”. It is a skin disease noticeable by small and itchy rashes. It affects people of all ages due to underdeveloped sweat glands. Medical assistance should be sought for the first sign of a rash with the appearance of miliaria. Serious cases can last for a number of weeks and cause major disability. Precautionary measures are recommended for all patients, including moving to an air-conditioned environment if possible, avoiding sweat-provoking activities and occlusive clothing, and giving a frequent bath with baking soda and be careful about using thick ointments that can clog the pores. After bathing try to allow the baby’s body to air dry instead of using a towel.
Nappy rash is another name for diaper rash and is one of the common baby rashes. The rash is not primarily caused by the diaper itself but the contents that are trapped inside. If the condition worsens then the rash can lead to broken skin, red spots and blisters. The cause of it is from the skin kept wet and subsequent irritation from the diaper being kept on the baby too long. Leaving the skin exposed to air for a while can be helpful.
These common baby rashes are not very harmful but in severe cases, doctors’ attention is recommended. If you observed that there is any breathing issue, always seek immediate medical attention as an allergic reaction can be causing both the rash and respiratory problems.
